Human beings. Calculative, meticulous and overanalysing. Perfect recipe for a worrisome mind.
I learnt something in church today. No it wasn’t during the sermon. It was during the prayer session. The lady leading it said something, a sentence really that I have been putting into practice the moment she said it and it is slowly and hopefully becoming a life changing habit.
She said, ‘When worry about any situation creeps into your mind, don’t go ahead and worry, turn it into a prayer’.
Human behavior sometimes is bent on problem solving and taking the bull by the horn. This is very admirable in certain situations. But when we encounter situations that have a long latency period before being solved, we spend meaningful time pondering, overthinking and letting the problems fester in our minds so much so that the joy in our hearts dries out and all we are left with is a bottomless black hole that is worry.
But we have a Friend that has told us to come to Him when we are burdened and heavy laden. He promises to give us rest. He is saying ‘Are you tired? Worn out? I see what you’re going through and I can’t have that because I love you. Come, tell me all the things bothering you, I’m going to take care of them and you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly’. (Paraphrased from Matthew 11:28-30 The Message Version).
And that’s exactly what you should do. Tell Jesus, EVERYTHING. That’s you turning it into prayer. It’s no different from talking to a dear friend.
Done? Now allow every burden, insecurity, uncertainty and worry to be lifted from your mind and feel the peace of God that passes all understanding wash over you like a stream of cool water after a hot day.
‘So don’t worry because I am with you. Don’t be afraid because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you. I will support you with my right hand that saves’. (Isaiah 41:10 New Century Version)
Breathe. Jesus has you covered.
